Hong Kong to China Explorer

21 days Hong Kong to Beijing from £1380. Escorted Group Journey.

Day 1-2: Hong Kong:
Enjoy this vibrant city with its tastes of old-world China combined with the buzz of a modern city. Day 1 is at leisure, not to be missed are the spectacular views from Victoria Peak. Day 2 cross the border in to mainland China and board the overnight train to Guilin.

Days 3-4: Yangshou:
Travel by train to picturesque Yangshou for some of China's best scenery. Cycle through rice fields or hike a spectacular riverside track during your visit.

Day 5-6: Chengdu:
A flight takes you from Yangshuo to Chengdu the capital of the Sichuan Province. Home to the Giant Panda Reserve and plenty of traditional teahouses which invite you to join in with the locals. End the day with a delicious spicy Sichuan hot pot and a night at the traditional local opera.

Day 7-10: Yangzi River:
The legendary Yangzi River is the lifeblood of millions. You spend two nights aboard a comfortable boat cruising through the famous Three Gorges and touring the controversial dam construction site before taking an afternoon flight to Xian.

Days 11-12: Xian:
A visit to the ancient army of Terracotta Warriors is the highlight of any trip to the imperial capital of Xi’an but you can also catch the morning tai chi along the city walls and the bustling Muslim Quarter.

Days 13-14: Hangzhou:
Hangzhou is a picturesque city surrounded by wonderful scenery, and famous for its temples, tea and cuisine. Take the opportunity and try some of the local speciality dishes at a lakeside restaurant.

Day 15-17: Shanghai:
There is time here to enjoy the grand architectural styles of former colonial residents and the stately art deco Bund and to visit the impressive Shanghai Museum. Or take a day trip to one of the charming nearby water towns.

Day 18-21: Beijing:
Beijing is a wonderful city which begs discovery. Wander Tiananmen Square, see the Forbidden City and peaceful Temple of Heaven, or escape the city to view the indulgent Summer Palace.

• Accommodation (16 nights in hotels, 2 nights boat cabin, 2 overnight trains)
• All transport (private bus from the airport, public bus, train, boat, plane)
• Meals – 18 breakfasts, 4 lunches, 8 dinners
