This wonderful journey into the heart of China’s rural south is for travellers keen to explore the different faces of modern China – cosmopolitan cities, magnificent countryside and enchanting towns. Immerse yourself in the exciting bustle and impressive sights of fabulous Hong Kong before embarking on an adventure of backstreets and fishing villages, bicycles and rice paddies, ethnic minorities and stunning mountain scenery.

Day 1: Arrive Hong Kong:
Upon arrival in Hong Kong you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Tonight meet your tour leader (or local guide) and the rest of the group for welcome drinks.

Day 2: Hong Kong Island sightseeing:
Catch the famous Star Ferry across to Central for a short walk around the famous historic and modern buildings before taking the funicular railway up Victoria Peak. Enjoy spectacular views before heading south to the typhoon shelter of Aberdeen for a traditional sampan cruise. Continue on to Repulse Bay and Stanley village. Pay a visit to the historic, incense laden Man Mo Temple before returning to mainland Kowloon. (B)

Day 3: New Territories and Kowloon:
Head north into the New Territories to visit the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. Continue on to a restored example of an 18th century Hakka village, still inhabited by local residents before heading on to the bustling Taoist Wong Tai Sin Temple. Head downtown for a well deserved dim sum feast before exploring Kowloon’s markets. (B,L)

Day 4: Hong Kong - Guilin:
Time for some shopping before your flight to Guilin. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure. (B)

Day 5: Longsheng & Dragon’s Backbone Rice Terraces:
Enjoy a full day tour to Longsheng and explore some of China’s beautiful rural countryside. Drive through spectacular scenery and ascend the winding road that snakes up the mountainside to view traditional wooden houses on stilts in White Yao village. Take a short hike further up the mountain to admire ‘Dragon’s Backbone’ - some of China’s most spectacular rice terrace scenery. (B)

Day 6 - Li River Cruise & Yangshuo:
Spend the day leisurely cruising down the Li River past tranquil farming scenes and picturesque villages. Alight at the small town of Yangshuo set amidst lush green rice paddies. Spend the afternoon walking the cobblestone streets and enjoy the colourful atmosphere of this enchanting town. (B,L)

Day 7: Yangshuo:
Today don a cycling helmet and a spirit of adventure and head out into Yangshuo’s beautiful countryside on bicycles. Explore local villages, rice paddies and lotus fields and enjoy the fascinating images of rural life. (B,L)

Day 8: Yangshuo - Guilin - Kunming:
Join your group this morning for an early tai chi lesson before transfering back to Guilin for your flight to Kunming. On arrival, transfer to your hotel and spend a free afternoon exploring the city. (B)

Day 9: Kunming - Dali sightseeing:
After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Dali. Explore Dali old town and visit Xizhou market to experience a local Bai ethnic minority village. The afternoon is spent visiting the impressive Three Pagodas, cruising Erhai Lake, and taking the scenic chair lift up the hillside behind Dali for some magnificent views. (B)

Day 10: Dali – Lijiang sightseeing:
This morning drive to Lijiang, an enchanting town surrounded by imposing mountains and home to a number of ethnic minority groups, most notably the matriarchal Naxi people. Explore the old town taking time to wander along its maze of canals and old wooden buildings, through narrow cobbled streets and markets filled with traditionally dressed Naxi women. (B)

Day 11: Lijiang Sightseeing:
Today visit the traditional Baisha village and the town’s Liuli Dian Temple to view the incredible Ming dynasty murals. Continue on to the serene Yufeng Monastery – a peaceful Tibetan lamasery set in the foothills of the stunning Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. From here proceed to the scenic Black Dragon Pool and the Museum of Naxi Culture. (B)

Day 12: Tiger Leaping Gorge - Zhongdian:
Today drive through beautiful mountain scenery to visit the First Bend of the Yangtze River and the spectacular Tiger Leaping Gorge. Enjoy a relaxing walk along the gorge, descending right to the river's edge to feel the power of the mighty Yangtze River and marvel at the area’s dramatic landscapes. From here continue to Zhongdian, otherwise known as "Shangri-La". (B)

Day 13: Songzanlin Monastery and Tibetan Villages:
Spend the day visiting the Songzanlin Monastery, a 300-year-old Tibetan monastery complex inhabited by several hundred monks. Enjoy the opportunity to explore one of Zhongdian’s surrounding Tibetan villages. (B)

Day 14: Zhongdian - Kunming:
This morning, transfer to the airport for your flight from Zhongdian back to Kunming. On arrival enjoy a relaxing afternoon exploring the colourful Flower and Bird Market and the park areas surrounding Green Lake followed by the Yunnan Museum of Minority Nationalities. This evening join your group for a farewell dinner. (B)

Day 15: Depart Kunming:
Your tour ends today with a transfer to the airport for a continuation of your travels. (B)
