Situated in the south–eastern corner of Yunnan’s Tibetan Plateau, this new hotel is cradled within the stunning landscapes of the area known as Shangri-La, made famous as the setting for James Hilton’s novel ‘Lost Horizon’.
Managed by Angsana Resorts and Spa who are renowned for their quality of service and innovative approach to hotels, this is the sister hotel to the two impressive Banyan Tree properties in Ringha and Lijiang. The charming guestrooms are decorated in rich indigenous style and incorporate warm Tibetan hues, intricately woven rugs and ambient lighting. In keeping with Tibetan lamasery style, all rooms face inwards towards a central courtyard and the beds are raised off the floor on a platform at one end of the room. The Metok Pema restaurant, named after a lotus flower, offers delightful Tibetan, Chinese and Western delicacies and is complemented by the atmospheric Aku Lemu bar and Courtyard Café.
