Amakhala Game Reserve was founded in 1999 in a joint venture designed to reclaim the natural heritage of the hills and valleys in this historic and hospitable frontier country.

The beauty of the Eastern Cape landscape enhances the recreation of a wildlife experience from generations past, as do each of the lodges, run by descendants of the original 1820 settlers. Amakhala Game Reserve offers a range of morning and evening safaris and other activities enabling a remarkably rounded adventure. Game drives in open vehicles and guided walks will give you an upclose insight into the African bush and possible sightings of four of the ‘Big 5’. Leisurely river cruises and canoeing down the Bushmans River to see the tranquil riverine ecosystem with its array of birds and occasional sightings of the rare Cape Clawless otter.

The lodges offer various styles of accommodation, which include two gracious colonial homesteads & a classic bush lodge all featured below. All accommodation has its own swimming pool.
