7 Day Scenic Safari Adventure

Hoedspruit to Nelspruit (KMIA)

Day 1: Hoedspruit – Tzaneen
After collecting your Avis car at Hoedspruit Airport, head towards scenic Magoebaskloof and the emerald green tea estates of Tzaneen for the next two nights. (125km)

Day 2: Tzaneen
A day to explore the beauty of the area. Visit the Debegeni Falls, a series of cascades tumbling 240ft into a deep pool, or the Modjadji Nature Reserve, named after the Rain Queen on whom H. Rider Haggard reputedly based his book ‘She’. (B)

Day 3: Tzaneen – Private Game Reserve
Leaving early, journey south through indigenous forests via Gravelotte and Hoedspruit towards the ‘Panorama Route’, including the spectacular Blyde River Canyon, the third largest in the world, and the intriguing Bourke’s Luck Potholes. Later, head to the private game reserves of either Bongani Mountain Lodge or Lion Sands. For more information on each of these lodges, please see pages 53-54. Please ensure you reach your chosen lodge and have checked in well before the afternoon game drives, which generally begin around 4pm. Go in search of the "Big 5" in an open 4-wheel drive vehicle, accompanied by highly qualified rangers and trackers. After sunset, return to the lodge and enjoy the culinary delights. Day 4: Private Game Reserve
Enjoy an early morning game drive before returning to the lodge for a hearty breakfast. Relax around the swimming pool or on one of the decks overlooking the bush, before an afternoon game drive. Please note at Bongani Mountain Lodge only one game drive is included per night. Optional game drives or guided walks can be purchased locally. Prices available on request. (BLD)

Day 5: Private Game Reserve – White River
At Lion Sands, a final early morning game drive before breakfast and your departure. At Bongani, this drive is optional and payable locally. Later, enjoy a leisurely drive to your next hotel, which is in the White River area and perfectly located to explore either the Kruger National Park or the scenic area of Mpumalanga. (80km/60km)

Day 6: White River
A full day to explore God’s Window, Sabie, Lone Creek or Mac Mac Falls or pan for gold in the historic village of Pilgrim’s Rest. For the more energetic there are plenty of walking and biking trails. A scenic flight by helicopter is also a great way to view the area. Return to your chosen hotel and relax in the gardens before a sumptuous dinner.

Day 7: White River – Nelspruit (KMIA)
After breakfast, it is just a short drive via Nelspruit, noted for its roadside stalls selling curios and fresh produce, to the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport. Your hire car is booked until tomorrow (7 days car hire) but must be returned no later than the time it was picked up on Day 1. (B) (35km/40km)
