The Dominican Republic occupies the eastern half of the Caribbean’s second largest island, Hispaniola. Renowned for its spectacular coastline and its white-sand beaches lapped by the warm azure Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. The 60 km strip on the northern Atlantic coast between Puerto Plata and Cabarete is one of the island's most popular destinations, with an array of affordable beachfront resorts and spas. There is no shortage of hotel based sporting activities and excursions including Jeep safaris and horse-back tours. The island has a reputation as one of the best spots for windsurfing in the world and watersports are plentiful including sailing, scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing and whale watching to name a few. The climate is tropical with two distinct seasons and temperatures varying little across the year and offering year round sunshine. The dry season runs from December to April, when temperatures are at their coolest on average 24oC. The wet season runs from May to November with temperature at their hottest around late twenties combined with high humidity. The flight time from the UK is around 11 hours.
